Your account
You must be 13 or older. Your profile has to be real, because your family relies on it to recognise you.
You are responsible for keeping your password safe. If you sign in with Google or Apple, protecting that account is up to that provider.
One person, one account. No sharing, no impersonating anyone.
Your content
The photos, videos, posts and messages you share stay yours. We claim no ownership of them.
You allow Ohanaki to store your content and show it to exactly the people you chose, never more widely.
You are responsible for what you post, including when other people appear in your photos.
You can delete any photo or video of yours, even one used in a post or a message. Where it was used, only a "Photo deleted" note remains.
Community rules
Do not post illegal content, content that exploits children, incitement to violence, or harassment.
Anyone can report a post or comment. Once you report something, it is hidden from you straight away.
Our moderators review reports and may hide content or make it private. Authors still see their own post and are told it is restricted.
Hearts & Dating
Hearts & Dating is an anonymous space: you use a pen name of its own, not linked to your name, photo or main profile. Only the Ohanaki team knows which account a pen name belongs to, to act on abuse and to delete the data when you delete your account.
Before entering you must agree to the community rules: share honestly, no ads, no toxicity, no vulgarity, stay on topic. Every post is reviewed before it shows.
Dating is for people aged 18 and over only, by the date of birth on your account. Giving a false date of birth to enter Dating breaks these terms.
Breaking the rules can get posts removed and a pen name blocked for good. See also our Child safety standards.
Storage vaults
Photos and videos live in vaults. Every account gets a small free vault; paid vaults renew monthly until you cancel.
After cancelling, a vault works normally until the end of the period you paid for. Then it locks: nothing new can be added, but members can still view and download what is already there.
30 days after it expires, the vault and everything in it are permanently deleted and cannot be recovered. Renew or download your content before then.
Photos you delete stay in the bin for 9 days, then go for good.
Payment
Paid plans are billed through the App Store, Google Play, or the payment page on our website. We never see or store your card details.
Prices include the taxes that apply where you live. Invoices and cancellation are handled where you bought the plan.
Plans can be upgraded, not downgraded. If a renewal payment runs into trouble, your vault stays open while it is retried.
Subscriptions bought in the iPhone or iPad app are also governed by Apple's Standard End User License Agreement (EULA): https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/
Leaving
You can delete your account at any time from within the app. We delete your profile, posts, messages and vault content.
We may suspend accounts that seriously break the rules above, and we will say why.
Changes
If these terms change in a way that affects you, we will email you at least 30 days in advance.
The service is provided as is. We work hard never to lose data, but you should keep your own copy of anything that truly matters.
